I love taking pictures of my kids on the first and last days of school. This is them walking home on the last day...my new 2nd and 5th (choke) graders! They walk most days with a lot of the kids from the neighborhood while we watch from the corner. I know they just looove the fact that I ran over and took their pictures...you can see it in their faces! haha!
I also got them some end of the year prizes we would use a lot this summer. A swimsuit, towel, shirt, get ready for the next year workbook, and a devotional book. It has been such a struggle to get them up earlier to spend time in the Word before school, so this summer, to not lose my sanity, I have scheduled it into our days. From 8:30-8:45am they do their devotional. They have really been committed so far, and I do not go nuts if they miss or if we are going somewhere and it does not get done that day. I simply want them to know how important it is to read, study, and pray. I make them go to their rooms with the door shut after they get done and pray. Tracen will sometimes write what he prays for and Makenna just says she prays for whatever. The Holy Spirit will help them in this, and I want it to become a habit that carries on for the rest of their lives. Tracen's is simple for his age, with a passage, a story, an application, and quote or prayer. Makenna's is more challenging, and I've loved seeing some of her answers to the questions. Some make her dig so deep, and she makes me proud.
I definitely do not miss the walk to and from school, or them going to school at all, and I really hope this summer slooooooows down sometime soon. I am not ready to do the walking to 2nd and 5th grade picture just yet!
