Leftovers

Here are some leftover Mailey birthday pics.  We couldn't leave out Erica in her sweeeeet bakers hat, could we??
 

 

Our family gift to her was a sandbox.  She is in the dirt/sand wherever we go, so we thought it would be a hit.  She can play out there for hours.  Or she would more often if it was not 100+ degrees every day lately.
 

Remember the Alamo...

We did the classic trip to the Alamo while we were there.  I think it was hotter than Sea World! They had  a great table set up where the kids could make corn husk dolls like the kids would have had during that time period.  They also had a great exhibit in the (air conditioned) library of artifacts.  There was Susanna Dickenson's petticoat, letters from Travis, maps, and old cookbooks and home remedy pamphlets.  There was also a bond Santa Anna tried to sell when he was trying to regain power in Mexico.  Since I am such a Texas History geek, I loved it.  I know Makenna learned so much because she had zero Texas History in the 4th grade due to STAAR testing and the new curriculum of death, Cscope, our district has decided to adopt.  Oh my it nearly killed me she missed so much.  Makes me furious!!  I will always regret not homeschooling her last year.  But that is another post...

Natural Bridge Caverns

We also went to Natural Bridge Caverns on this trip. We had not been in forever, and it was so neat for the kids.  They loved it.  We got there early before the crowds, which I suggest.  They are adding a climbing course and zip line, so this is a great place to visit in San An.  Hiking back out of the steep cavern holding a 3 year old was a workout, though!  Whew.  Exercise on vacation was no problem for me!
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A really fun thing for them to do was "digging for jewels" after the cave.  You can buy a bag of dirt with different stones inside, so we separated it into 3 piles and they loved it.
